Public Figures and Leaders
for Mike's Freedom
Open letter
We, the undersigned, express our deep concern regarding the detention and sentencing of Mikhail "Mike" Loshchinin, a Belgian citizen with longstanding personal, professional and cultural ties across Europe.
On June 2, 2026, Mr. Loshchinin was sentenced in Russia to 16 years of imprisonment following proceedings that have raised serious concerns regarding compliance with fundamental fair trial standards.
We note with concern the growing number of international voices expressing concern about his situation, including human rights organizations, public officials, members of civil society and citizens from across Europe and beyond.
We call for the continuation and strengthening of all lawful diplomatic and humanitarian efforts aimed at securing his release and ensuring respect for his fundamental rights and dignity.
We also express our solidarity with his family, who continue to endure this difficult ordeal with courage and determination.
This appeal is not directed against any country or people. It is a humanitarian appeal on behalf of a man whose future, health and freedom are at stake.
We respectfully invite governments, public institutions, elected representatives, civil society organizations and individuals of goodwill to support all peaceful efforts that may contribute to a just and humane resolution of his situation.
Every effort matters. Every voice counts.
